DR650 Replacing 3rd Gear With Nova Racing Set

We spend our 2012 holidays installing a 3rd gear set from Nova Racing in England. The purpose for this expensive and labour intensive modification -- noting that we are likely the first in the world to install the gear set -- is that it is seen by some as a reasonable preventative measure to problem where a small but significant percentage of DR650s have been experiencing "catastrophic" transmission failure related to the 3rd gear. A topic of controversy on internet forums, this mod is untested and unproven and we are the guinea pigs here. What this mod really offers us is "peace of mind" to a relatively unlikely technical issue. The thought of a rear wheel lock up, or catastrophic engine failure way out in the boondocks of a country far away from our own does not sit well with us. Shipping in a replacement engine is not a reasonable option. This would spell the end of our adventure which has been several years in planning, and with a very high cost to us -- financially and "other" in that we have put countless hours into various forms of prep work. For us, it was best to avoid "that nagging feeling" as we head off yonder.
